So, we're going to a colonial re-enactment tonight, and spending most of the day tomorrow at a battle re-enactment in our little town. Woo-hoo!
Anyone else here like re-enacments? Any re-enactors out there?
We've thought about having our family become re-enactors at future events, and if we're still in our little town this fall, we'll probably start getting together our outfits (stringent rules on authenticity) and attend some workshops, so that we can do it next year.
I'd fit in at a colonial thing quite well-- I play a MEAN pennywhistle! :-)

I worked with a guy who is originally from Virginia and was big into re-enactments. He was involved in almost every time period. He brought a picture album one day for me to look at and the photos were amazing. The black and white photos from his WWII re-enactments were almost impossible to distinguish from real photos of that era. He was also involved with the 40th anniversay re-enactment of D-Day. Those photos were unbelievable. From the stories he would tell it was obvious that he loved and missed doing it. It made me want to get involved and I think it would be a great way to learn about history.
edited to add: He also showed me a scar on his leg where he was accidentally stabbed by a bayonet during a civil war re-enactment, lol.

He also showed me a scar on his leg where he was accidentally stabbed by a bayonet during a civil war re-enactment, lol. Apparently, those Civil War reenactments get nasty. I once dated a guy who almost had his hand blown off firing artillery when his overenthusiastic friend (also a reenactor) blew the cannon before he was done swabbing it. SMOOTH! If we did any for now, it would definitely be Am. Revolution or colonial era. Although maybe down the line, some Civil War as well seeing as we live in the south and I have confederate ancestors all over my family tree. I'll just stay away from the weapons. ;-)
